Broken Toe
And you thought a broken toe would keep me from riding--HA! A $15.00 orthopedic shoe, Vet Tape and duct tape will fix anything.
Of course, I made sure the shoe was narrow enough to fit into my stirrup.
It keeps my toe quite sturdy.
Then I made a duct tape cover. I'll have to wear this shoe to work too. They don't really like horse dirt at school.
Strapped on my leather half chaps, and walla--instant horse riding boot.
My new horsey footwear worked well.
Grace and Cerise were quite spunky today. Grace even decided to be a cow pony with the neighbor dog. The Doberman came running and barking like she was going to do some damage. Grace spun, faced the dog and set herself up like she was going to push some cattle. I didn't know Grace had that in her. The dog went running home. I think Grace was disappointed.

Friends and Horses
Today was about her horses. James is a Percheron. He's giving one of the neighbor's girls a ride.
Dutches is Jaye's Paint mare. She shows no paint markings except socks and a blaze.
James and Dutches are good friends.

Head Wound
Grace decided to celebrate the end of summer by cutting her head open. The weather has been a little cooler lately, and Cerise as been very aggressive towards Grace. I think Grace smacked her head against the bard siding getting away from Cerise. The vet spent a few hours sewing her up last night. She cut about a 5 inch flap open just below her forelock -- almost between her eyes. The cut went through all layers of skin down to the skull. The vet sewed interior stitches and then exterior stitches. She (vet) did a good job. The pictures are of the wound after stitching. It doesn't look bad now. You should have seen it before -- the vet had to open the flap and clean the wound clear down to her skull, pretty gruesome. The silver color is a spray bandage.

Horses and Kids
The grandsons spent the night last night. This morning Tara (mom) and the neighbor kids came to join us.
We groomed the horses and painted them into Indian ponies. Then we went for a trail ride.

Another Rainy Day
It seems as though we have had more rain than sun this summer. The bugs are lov'n it. Even though it was raining again today, I decided to ride anyway. So the horses and I saddled and netted up.
Oh, and I didn't mention that Grace cut her eye lid the other day. I have been putting medicated ointment on the eye lid and keeping the eye covered with her fly mask. Notice the cute donkey looking ears.
